One way we do this is by offering compensation for quality education at the Huron School of Nursing or the School of Diagnostic Imaging.

SmartLoan Assists Both Employees and Family Members
The newly enhanced SmartLoan program provides monetary support (including tuition, books, uniforms and CCC support courses) for eligible, qualified employees and family members to attend the Huron School of Nursing or the School of Diagnostic Imaging. Upon graduation, employees/students who have received assistance under this program agree to a specified work commitment as a Registered Nurse or Radiologic Technologist within the the Cleveland Clinic-East.

For an employee or family member to be eligible, the employee must:
- Be a regular full- or part-time employee working at least 40 hours per pay period
- Have successful completion of 3-month orientation period
- Have no corrective actions at written level or above for previous 6 months
- Be in satisfactory standing by meeting most expectations on the most recent performance appraisal
- Maintain all above criteria throughout the enrollee's educational program
- Be accepted for admission to the Huron School of Nursing or School of Diagnostic Imaging
Upon completion:
- Tuition loan will be forgiven as the employee/student fulfills the post-graduation work commitment specified in the loan agreement
- Work commitments range from 1-2 years based on loan amount
Guidelines for Employees:
- At the start of the program, employee signs a loan agreement to borrow any portion of the program costs.
- Scheduling or other special work arrangements remain subject to Department Manager
- Employees who do not complete the educational program, maintain program eligibility or fulfill work commitment will be subject to the repayment provisions of the loan agreement.
Guidelines for family members:
- Family members of full-time employees are eligible for a loan of one-half of the total program costs
- Family members of part-time employees are eligible for a loan of one-quarter of the total program costs
- Employee must remain employed and eligible for family member to retain all program benefits
SmartLoan Hours Reduction
Often, special needs arise when you decide to pursue your academic objectives. In this program, enrolled employees may be permitted to reduce scheduled hours and retain many benefits as if employed full-time.
Guidelines:
Must have at least one year of regular full-time status within Euclid, Hillcrest, Huron and South Pointe Hospitals
Must be selected for an available part-time position of at least 40 hours per pay period
Decrease to part-time hours must not have occurred prior to enrollment. Special benefits status ends upon program completion, at which time the employee's benefit eligibility will depend on current scheduled hours and position
