Internal Medicine Residency Program
Andrei C. Brateanu, MD, FACP
Program Director

The internal medicine residency program at Huron Hospital is on the one hand, innovative and personal, and on the other, rigorous and demanding. Research is encouraged through collaboration with the teaching staff. As residents progress through their training, they take responsibility for patient care under the supervision of the attending staff. This progression includes decisions to admit patients, as well as recommendations regarding diagnostic approaches, clinical management, determination of hospital discharge and follow-up treatment and care through the hospital's outpatient clinics.

The residency in internal medicine emphasizes excellent care and concern for the patient. Throughout the three-year program, a well-qualified and diverse faculty provides instruction in internal medicine and its subspecialties, both within the hospital setting and in private physicians' offices. In 2001, our three-year rolling pass rate on the ABIM Certifying Examination was 98%, the highest in Ohio.

In addition to strong training in internal medicine and its subspecialties, the program provides experience in the hospital's comprehensive outpatient facilities. Rotations in ambulatory clinics, as well as in the Emergency Department, provide in-depth general and subspecialty medicine experience with ambulatory patients.

Because Huron Hospital is a community hospital, residents witness and care for patients with a variety of diseases, providing a broad range of practical medical experiences. In preparation for a lifetime of practice in internal medicine or one of its subspecialties, residents handle problems requiring the highest levels of expertise.

We welcome your interest in our program. Applications are accepted through ERAS only. If you have any questions, please contact us at (216) 761-7984 or email us at ltripepi@cchseast.org.
