Emergency Medical Technician - Basic
The School of EMS offers three EMT-Basic courses a year:
The 150-hour Basic course includes 35 four-hour classroom sessions over a seventeen week period followed by 10 hours of clinical time. Students who successfully complete the Basic course can sit for the National Registry Basic Exam, which serves as the Ohio EMT - Basic Certifying Test.
Fall EMT - Basic course begins early September and Winter EMT Basic course begins mid-January. Both courses meet on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. The class also meets on one or two Saturdays.
Summer EMT - Basic course is scheduled so that students can take the entire 150-hour course in the months of June, July and August during their school summer recess. See course calendar for specific dates and times.
The EMT - Basic Course includes:
- Preparatory Material
- Patient Assessment
- Airway and Cardiac Arrest Management
- Trauma Patient Management
- Medical Patient Management
- Certification Testing
Students enrolled in the Basic EMT course are also provided with a CPR course. Upon successful completion, they are also certified in Healthcare Provider BCLS.
Cleveland Clinic School of EMS is Accredited by the State of Ohio, Department of Public Safety (Accreditation #320).
You must successfully complete the EMT-B training before you are permitted to take the EMT-Paramedic course.
